John Albert William Swenson was born February 23, 1868 to Frank and Johnna Swenson at their homestead along Horseshoe Lake near Stark, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Fish Lake Lutheran Church in Stark. He was married to Sophie Lundeen on November 23, 1904 at North Branch, by Rev. Linner. His godparents were Mr. and Mrs. Hokenson. John and Sophie had one adopted child, Marjaya Victoria who married Dolph Nordgren of North Branch. Marjaya had two girls, Jeanne Kay and Julie Ann.

After John’s father, Frank, died on February 2, 1891 from pneumonia, John and his brother, Charlie, took control and ownership of the farm, but every decision made needed Johanna’s permission. On October 19, 1891 John A. Swenson and Charles E. Swenson purchased an additional 40 acres from William and Ann Batt for $840. The mortgage on the land was payable 3 years after the date of sale to Ole Anderson with interest payable annually at the rate of 8% per annum. On Nov. 18, 1907 the 120 acres of land owned jointly between Charles E. Swenson and John A. Swenson was divided up equally. John Swenson continued to farm his 60 acres of land until his wife Sophie became sick and died in 1929. At that time, he sold the farm and moved to North Branch to do carpentry work.

John Swenson died February 4, 1952 at the age of 83.
