The unusual sound of church bells tolling the sad Requiem that denotes the return to mother earth of a human body was heard, Sunday night at 9 o’clock. It was the funeral of little six-year-old Caleb Nelson youngest child and only son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Nelson, he died the same day at noon from a malignant attack of diphtheria. He was taken sick the previous Thursday with what was thought to be a sore throat but later turned out to be what is termed “black diphtheria “and in spite of the best efforts of the attending physician the little fellow passed away a few hours after the deceased had reached the acute stage.
Caleb Zachrison Horn Nelson was six years of age on 20 May last, a bright and well behaved little fellow attending the first grade in the public school.
The grief of his parents is shared by all his schoolmates and many friends. He was laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery, Reverend Valentine officiating.
