Sara Lisa Carlsdotter Vislander was born July 1, 1853 in Holmaberg, Nöbbele, Kronobergs län, Sweden to Carl Ingemarson Vislander and Johanna Nilsdotter. At the age of 18 she lived in Linneryd, Kronobergs län and at the age of 20 she lived in Väsby, Malmöhus. She emigrated to the U.S. in August 1877 at the age of 24. She married John P. Swenson on March 1, 1881 in Chisago County, Minnesota and they had eight daughters and one son: Helen Christine, Nannie Otellia, Hulda Marie, Emily Victoria, Lydia Sophia, Jennie Thersia, Carl Victor, Minnie Pauline and Hattie Hortense. John and Sara and their children were members of Fish Lake Lutheran Church near Stark. They lived on the Swenson family homestead on the southeastern shore of Goose Lake in Fish Lake Township along with John’s parents, Peter and Christine Swenson. Three of their children died in 1907 and one died in 1912, possibly from typhoid fever. Sara’s husband, John, died in August 1909. Sara moved to Minneapolis after her husband’s death and presumably lived with one of her daughters. Sara Swenson died June 8, 1921 at the age of 67. She is buried at Fish Lake Lutheran Cemetery alongside her husband.
