Funeral services were conducted from the home at 1:30 pm last Saturday and from the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church of Center City at 2:00 pm for August Swenson, Lindstom, well known retired farmer who passed away at his home here 11:15 pm Wednesday October 4.
Mr Swenson, who had been ailing for the past 5 years had been suffering from gangrene which necessitated the amputation of a leg four years ago. The immediate cause of his death was brought on by a heart stroke which resulted from the effects of the disease the past two and half weeks he had been confined to his bed suffering considerably.
Rev A N Nelson officiated at the services and pallbearers were Frank Moody, Oscar Stromback, Charles Cedergren, N J Smith, Peter Nicklson and Axel Olson. Internment was made in the cemetery of the Chisago Lake Church.
August Swenson was born May 7, 1859 in Osterjotland near Lindkoping, Sweden and came to this country at the age of 35 years. He settled in Lindstrom where he worked at odd jobs. In the year 1903 he was married to Miss Helena Horn of here and then moved onto a farm 5 miles south of town. Six children were born to this union, 2 of whom are now dead. The couple occupied this farm until 9 years ago when they retired and moved to Lindstrom. They have resided here since.
The deceased leave to mourn his loss, his wife, 1 daughter, Mrs George Gummerson residing south of here, Martin Swenson of Lindstrom, Elmer Swenson living on the old home farm south of here and Burdett Swenson of Forest Lake besides a host of friends in the community with whom he was highly respected. He has been also a faithful member of the Chisago Lake Church since 1893 and was of staunch christian character.
